Biographies

This is the story of the life of David Timothy Cowher, a.k.a. Cowfer, and his wife, Julia Ann Stonebraker.  He was born in 1842 and died in 1915. David fought in the Civil War. He later deserted then was caught, court-martialed and returned to service.  He also suffered wounds and other ailments that would torture him for the rest of his life.  After they married in 1866, this couple had thirteen (13) children and many grandchildren.

This story answers  many questions about David, including:

-  Where did David and Julia marry?  (By the way, it was not at Reese Hollow as many have claimed).

-  Where were they living in 1850 and 1860?

-  When did David leave his post during the Civil War?

-  What was his real surname: Cowher or Cowfer?

-  What was Julia's actual birth date?

Case Studies

Many researchers of the Greenland family claim that Anna Stains was a daughter of Daniel Stains and Charity (-?-) without providing any supporting evidence.  Here it is.

Other researchers have attributed a birth date of Jan. 3, 1773 for Caleb. This is incorrect. This brief case study provides the correct date.

In “A Brief Sketch of Caleb Greenland and his Wife, Christina Curfman with Some of their Ancestors and Part of their Descendants,” Frank Roher stated that Ethan Chilcott married a woman named Cora May Thomas without providing any additional information about her. Who was she? This case study provides her story.
